  • Application flexibility – Can be installed independently, manifolded or connected to storage tanks. 14 BTR models offer inputs from 120,000 to 500,000 BTUs and capacities up to 100 gallons.
  • Effikal automatic flue damper – Minimizes standby heat loss to achieve 80% thermal efficiency. Features reliable 360° rotation, service switch.
  • Thermostat dual controller – Limits water temperature stacking.
  • Intermittent electronic ignition – Eliminates standing pilot.
  • On/Off power switch – Eliminates the need to wire a separate electrical connection box.
  • Exclusive CoreGard™ long-life stainless steel core anode rods
  • Foam insulation
  • Three-year limited tank warranty
  • Handhole cleanout for easy cleaning
  • Meets NSF requirements when equipped with optional leg kit
  • Factory-installed T&P valve – Properly sized for each model.
  • Canadian models available – See Master-Fit® Brochure AOSC60993.

BTR FAQ's

  • What is the sequence of operation?

When the thermostat calls for heat, the relay in the draft hood assembly activates, de-energizing the flue damper motor. When the spring fully opens the damper, power flows to the IID (Intermittent Ignition Device). This activates the IID module to open the pilot valve and also begin the sparking at the pilot burner assembly.

Once the pilot flame is established and confirmed back to the IID by the flame sensor, the sparking is stopped and the main gas valve is opened so gas then flows to the main burner. The lit pilot flame ignites the burners which continue heating the water until the thermostat is satisfied. When the thermostat is satisfied both main burners and pilot flame are extinguished and the damper motor is energized. The damper motor keeps the damper closed until the next call for heat.

  • What is the purpose of the damper assembly?

The damper plate on top of the heater closes when the burners go off in order to retain heat within the tank. This reduces the stand-by heat loss and the overall operating cost of the unit.

  • What are the reset buttons on the heater for?

There are two reset buttons. The one on top is part of the damper assembly and will need to be reset if the motor or the relay fail. Push once and release to get one cycle of heating water. You will need to reset it again until a qualified technician troubleshoots the system.

The other reset button is on the side of the tank and is labeled ECO (Energy Cut Off). This is the safety temperature high limit which activates at 205º F. To reset, allow the temperature to drop down below 120° F,  then push and release the button. Call a qualified technician immediately to diagnose cause of overheating.

  • What are some of the common Engineering Data?

    See chart:

Total Electrical Consumption Less than 2 Amps at 120 VAC
    Thermostat Range Range is 120 F - 180 F 4, 5 differential
    High Limit (ECO) Setting Opens at 205 F, re-setable below 120 F
    Gas Pressure Requirements
    Supply Pressure Min. - Max. > Natural 4.5" - 13.8" w.c.
    Propane 11" - 13.8" w.c.
    Manifold Pressure:

    Natural 3.5" w.c.
    Propane 10" w.c.
Gas Valve Characteristics 24 VAC step opening gas valve with the electrical resistance readings below:
    • Pilot Valve 20ohms (+/- 5 ohms as measured between the two wires on the back of the valve)
    • Main Valve 68ohms (+/- 5 ohms as measured between the TH and TR terminals on the valve)
Flame Sense Signal 0.7 DC MicoAmps
    Transformer Data Step-down transformer 120 VAC / 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz, Class 2, 40 VA
Intermittent Ignition Device Honeywell IID model S8600M with 90 seconds trial for ignition followed by a  5-minute lockout period, local sense.
