• Can these heaters be used as an instantaneous heater?

  You can only use this unit without a storage tank for hydronic applications. When using this unit for domestic hot water you must have a storage tank to operate correctly.

• What should be the temperature rise across the heater?

  Normal temperature rise is 30 degree to 50 degree depending on the hardness of the water. Hard water needs 30 degree and soft water is 50 degree.

• What are the electrical requirements for these units?

  The heaters operate with 120V and less than 20 amps.

• Can my heater be installed outside or modified to sit outside?

  A: No. There is no kit available to use this unit outside.

• What is the function of the Thermal Balancer?

  The Thermal Balancer allows the circulation pump to run for two minutes after the flame shuts down to remove residual heat from the coils. The residual heat will be transferred to the storage tank instead of being lost. This will also reduce heat stress and prevent premature failure of the coil.

• Can I run the circulation pump continuously?

  A: We do not recommend you run the pump continuously through the boiler. You will prematurely wear the coils out.

• I have an older Burkay model, and I want to know what replaces it?

  A: The new Burkay unit have model numbers beginning with the letters HW.

• How many gallons does the Burkay coil hold?

  The coil holds approximately one to one and a half gallons per 100,000 BTUs

• What pump kit do I use with my unit?

  Pump kit part numbers >

• Can I use an HW unit as a booster for a dish washer?

  Yes, as long as the temperature rise across the coil does not exceed 40 degrees.

• Can the HW unit be used in a hydronic application?

  Yes

• When sizing a T&P for the storage tank and HW unit, what should the pressure rating be?

  The pressure rating should be 125 psi for hot water supply applications.
