Attic Radiant Barrier - Extra Touches that Provide Extra
Efficiency
Butt insulation against chimney and friction fit around lighting fixtures,
exhaust fans, motors or vents extending into attic. Cover and/or butt insulation
against these objects only as manufacturer permits.

Eliminate cold spots by filling cracks around doors and window framing with
Astro-Foil. Bow in and staple or tape to wood.

Small punctures do not require repair. Large rips or tears should be
patched with pressure-sensitive aluminum tape before installation of wall finishing.

To prevent condensation in the attic, it helps to keep air moving out through
eave vents, openings under the eaves, gable vents and roof vents. Provide
one square foot of free vent area for each 300 square feet of attic floor area.
PROPER INSTALLATION OF ASTRO-FOIL SHOULD NOT BLOCK PROPER VENTILATION.

Insulate pull-down stairways by stapling Astro-Foil to a built-up frame work.
Also staple on scuttle hole boards.

Butt ALL seams and tape with 2" wide pressure sensitive aluminum tape.
DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE. Make sure tape and insulation are clean, dry
and applied in an environment above 40`F. Tape only to seal seams.
Do not use to secure insulation itself. Apply tape over seams evenly
and use a wider width if necessary. Scrape a squeegee over the tape several
times to remove air pockets.
